CURRENT EVENTS' AP ASSIGNMENT

The purpose of this 1 credit AP assignment is to learn:

About important events that are happening in the world today.

How to locate information about current news events on the Internet.

How to use information researched from the Internet in a writing assignment.

STEP 1: Choose two or more of the news source URLs (web addresses) listed below.

STEP 2: Look through their web pages for an interesting news topic. Select one which
is likely to be followed in the news for several days.

EXAMPLES: The attempts negotiate a peace accord in Kosovo; State and Federal Govenments' attempts to improve education; NCAA basketball season.

STEP 3: Follow the news story for one week. Write an I-Search report on your experience and findings. Include the following:

Page 1: Title page with the title of your paper, your name and date. This would be a good place to insert a picture taken from one of your news sources.
Page 2: Introduction. Include yourself in the introduction. Describe how you felt about starting this this assignment, how you decided on the topic you did, and what you expect to get from the assignment.
Pages 3, 4 and 5: This should be a minimum of three pages including writing and pictures. Report on what you found in your research.
Include:
1) Introductory paragraph describing what you will be writing about;
2) The body of your report complete with topic sentences and supportive details in each paragraph, and,
3) Concluding or summary paragraph which wraps up the report with a review of what you wrote including a statement of your viewpoint or opinion.

Page 6: Bibliography. Include the URLs of the web sources you contacted. Also include the additional information sources you used including; encyclopedias, newspaper or magazine articles, TV programs, interviews, etc.

STEP 4: Turn in: 1) A floppy disk with your saved work and 2) A printed hard copy of the text.
